Precision Agriculture

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I include all of my acres into a precision ag program at once?
If you are unfamiliar with a precision ag program and just getting started, we recommend you include only one field the first year. Become familiar with how it works and get comfortable obtaining your goals then consider expanding to more acres.

Will I need less seed using some of the precision ag tools?
This depends on many factors. If you use variable rate seeding and row shut off control it is not determined if you will use less. But we can assure you that your seed will be used more efficiently. If you are only using row control, you can program the software to ensure there is no overlapping of seed. If you are using variable rate seeding, variable rating will allow you to determine what areas of the field you want more production and which areas have maxed out. The amount of seed you use will be determined by you when you are creating your seeding prescription maps.

Where do I purchase some of the precision tools if I decide I want to try this?
There are many options available to help you purchase precision tools. The first option is to visit local machinery dealership. They may have a dedicated technology person on staff to answer your questions. Second, is to ask your agronomist if applicable. Also, vendors located at trade shows and your neighbors may provide the information you may be looking for.

Do I need a faster internet service in my home if I want to work with prescription maps?
Yes, it is best if you have high speed internet at your home for the software to work properly.

Will these tools pay for themselves immediately?
This depends on what tools you are purchasing. Chances are you will not see a complete financial payback in one year. Generally, it will take several years to recoup your investment.
